Kids Financial Literacy Organization Stages Summer Workshop

Kidz Count, Inc. Encourages Children to Learn the Value of Money and Fitness Through Interactive Camp

(Fort Lauderdale, Fl – June 15, 2015) – While some children may suffer from math phobias during the school year, Kidz Count, Inc. is working to combat those fears by teaching kids the value of money and wealth creation this summer at Financially and Physically Fit Kidz, a youth financial fitness workshop, to be held from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. on July 25 at Ramblewood Elementary School, 8950 Shadow Wood Blvd. in Coral Springs, Fl.

Children that lack the proper financial knowledge grow up to be adults that lack proper financial literacy, ultimately making poor financial decisions,” said non-profit founder Samantha Porter, who is also the C.E.O. of Integrity Taxes & Accounting in Fort Lauderdale.

According to data gathered by Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, only seven percent of high school students in the U.S. are considered financially literate.

Additionally, students who are not financially literate have a greater chance of getting into severe debt, of having no savings plan and for potentially filing for bankruptcy.

To defeat these statistics, the workshop will cater to elementary, middle and high school students using differentiated financial literacy instruction at each level, including an interactive ‘what is money?’ session, healthy eating classes, kids savings sessions, entrepreneurial breakout and a parent session.

The highlight of the event is the “Next Biz Kid” Competition where children will vet a business idea in front of a panel of judges for a chance to win four Disney World tickets, $200 in cash and business mentorship. Submissions for the competition will be accepted until July 7.

Porter started Kidz Count in part because of the lessons she has taught her three children.

“My children don’t get an allowance. They work on commission. I am instilling entrepreneurial principles in them from a young age,” said Porter. “When they do work outside of their normal chores, we give them their commission.”
